A real ‘pinch me moment’ was the unbelievable honour of being asked to take part in the Platinum Jubilee Pageant. I just have no words for how magical that day was and how grateful I felt to be there.

PRIDE FASHION
Holister, Dr Martins and Levis are just a few of the big named brands to step up and show their support for pride month. Hollister has partnered up with LGBTQ+ student activists from GLEN to co-create pride designs and has confirmed a $250,000 to GLEN regardless of the sales. Dr Martin has reimagined one of its classic shoe designs, 1461, to incorporate the ‘progress pride flag’ by Daniel Quasar, the collection also has a pair of white socks with the logo in the pride flag colours, they are also donating £217,000 to LGBTQ+ charities world-wide. And, Levis have a whole host of items in their pride collection that is designed to be both genderless and size inclusive. Levi’s is also making an annual $100,000 donation to OutRightAction International, a global organisation working to advance human rights for LGBTQ+ people all over the world.

CLAM SHELLS
Crescents with a conscience…hand poured into eco-friendly Ocean Plastic clam shells. Ocean grade contains 30% recycled plastic bottles that are collected from riverbanks, beaches and coastlines which are cleaned and reprocessed back into polymer to make the film used to produce the packaging. Most of the collection is done in the far east where recycling and waste management is a problem owing to the poor economies. The manufacturers pay to collect the waste and provide extra jobs and therefore money to support the local communities.

As I was thinking about what happiness is, I was reminded about the iconic 1960’s comic strip ‘Love is…’ by New Zealand cartoonist Kim Casali. Couldn’t resist sharing a few with you.

England will host the UEFA Women’s EURO finals in July 2022.
England’s Lionesses will be joined by 15 other nations. Hundreds of thousands of fans are expected to attend the tournament and millions more will watch the globally televised event.
England will host the 16-team finals from 6 to 31 July 2022.
It is the second time England have staged the competition after 2005, when Germany triumphed. The Netherlands won the last finals, in 2017, on home turf.
MATT HANCOCK DYSLEXIA BILL
Regardless of your opinion of Matt Hancock, his ‘Dyslexia Screening Bill’ should be applauded, supported and passed! My own dyslexia was picked up fairly late and it wasn’t until that moment that my years of frustration at school all made sense. It is a quiet scandal that an estimated 4/5 dyslexic children leave school with their dyslexia unidentified meaning their potential is unrealised, their confidence undermined and they don’t achieve the qualifications they deserve. It does not have to be this way. Cheap and easy computer-based screening tools now exist to help to identify dyslexia.

My clever friend Alison has put together this wonderful book featuring ‘The Most Awesome Black Britons from Yesterday to Today’. From sportspeople to scientists, activists to musicians, politicians to writers, get ready for a journey ‘Black in Time’!
Paramedics in the Lake District hope to be using jet suits to reach medical emergencies this summer…
One member of Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) staff has completed his training to use the suit unassisted and two more are to begin shortly.
Once operational, medics will be able to fly up a fell in 90 seconds rather than taking 30 minutes by foot.
The use of jet suits in medical emergencies is believed to be a world first.
Trials of the futuristic-looking kits started in September 2020 but were halted by the Covid-19 pandemic and difficulties in finding a sponsor to cover the costs.
