Mysteries & Thrillers

Reader review:
“This book is a great thriller and a first rate suspense. It’s certainly a book that you cannot put down.”

Reader review: “This book takes the reader to a deserted 18 th Century village in a snow capped forest of Germany. Before you know it you are enthralled in a murder mystery and suspense thriller which captivates the reader until the last page. It leaves you with the thought that to think twice about relationships , as things are not always true as they appear to be . This book has it all, however I would recommend not to read it at night on your own .”

Reader review: “Gets inside your head. There was a mounting sense of peril that kept me on edge while reading. I have read several Colson Whitehead books now and this one was the most engrossing yet.”
Reader review: “Amazing, kept me hooked from beginning to end.”

Reader review: “This is a beautifully told story, not only for its delicate mystery, but for its author’s note at the end. But, mostly, it reminds us that there are some characters that give us faith in the world – the mentors that tell us we are capable of being anything we want to be, regardless of what people or family may expect of us.”
Reader review: “A five star read that explores the themes of spirituality, mental health and troubled childhoods. On the surface you presume this book is about a lonely man called Ted who’s hiding a dark secret about the “girl with the popsicle” who went missing 11 years ago. But all is not as it seems. Twisty, gothic and beautifully written, this dark novel will take you on an unexpected journey that will keep you guessing, and hook you in long after you turn the last page. Absolutely loved this book!”

Reader review: “This book is dark, satirical, and funny. Just like the title, the author was able to evoke curiosity in every line the author has written.”

Reader review:
“This is part of a laugh out loud trilogy following a female serial killer.”

Reader review: “Absolutely hooked from the first page. Gripping and harrowing and keeps you guessing who can be trusted. I’ll definitely be looking out for other books by this author!”
Reader review: “Tanz is a cocktail loving girl who is a struggling actress. She is grieving the loss of her friend Frank, when she takes a job at a spiritual shop where they sell crystals and do readings she discovers she is hearing voices and she can give people messages from beyond the grave. Beautifully written with a great level of humour.”
Reader review: “A great suspense with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing and make you gasp.”
Reader review: “A brilliantly written story that focuses on divine character development. Lots of twists and turns but with not only a constant undertone of “whodunit” but “whohaditdun” right to the very end.”

Reader review:
“This is the first book in the DCI Ryan Series (LJ Ross has other series to follow: Alexander Gregory + A couple of Summer Suspense Mysteries, which are also brilliant reads!). You imagine you are in the North of England with the characters, fighting the good fight against several Criminal Masterminds. The Characters of DCI Ryan and his Sidekick Frank (who loves a Stottie or two), are easy to fall in love with for being kind, honest police doing a tough job. There are several twists and turns. Holy Island is the start of a wonderful journey which I definitely recommend. Each book leaves you clamouring for more. Enjoy!”

Reader review:
The opening chapter grips you from the first page, Anna is running for her life and she takes us on a journey with her that had me on the edge of my seat at times.

Reader review: “This book had me gripped! I loved every second! I’ve read a fair few books and this one had me hooked right from the start! Brilliantly written.”

Reader review:
“Excellent character development. Keeps you curious to the end and beyond. The writing is tight and every word drips with intrigue.”

Reader review: “Very good read as with all Jackie’s books real page turners! Highly recommend. Suspense, thrills, twists & turns it’s all here. You won’t be disappointed & you’ll want to read more from this wonderful author.”
Reader review: “A disturbingly good, unputdownable read. Each chapter threw me off of the storyline that I thought was developing, and took a new turn to keep me glued. The characters and settings were totally believable, to the point where I’ve found myself weeks later wondering if Sally is doing OK. The closest I think I’ll ever get to understanding the mind of a psychopath.”

Reader review:
“I thoroughly recommend this book. I couldn’t put it down, the writing is brilliant with its twists and turns all the way through. Will be looking at more from this amazing author.”

Reader review:
“This is was gold standard story telling. I loved the plot, the characters, the themes of infertility and mental health that were dealt with so sensitively in the story, and the writing style of the author.”

Reader review:
“An excellent and sympathetic insight into the sometimes forgotten ‘why’ tragedies occur. A sensitive approach to the desperation and extreme personal distress that can drive a perpetrator to such desperate measures. It certainly opened my eyes.”

Reader review:
“A slow burn, but thoroughly compelling from the start, the intrigue builds the mystery deepens and the twists bend you in all directions.”

Reader review:
This book had me on the edge of my seat, trying to work out the mystery of the 6 girls on the hen weekend. Psychological thrillers are one of my favourites to read and this did not disappoint.”

Reader review:
“I love a bit of office politics, especially when it ends with a grisly death. Masterfully plotted, great characterisation and a real page turner. Bravo!”

Reader review:
“How can you turn away from a book that starts with a murder? The short answer is you cannot.”

Reader review:
“Very creepy and dark right from the start. It kept me asking questions as I was reading it. I’ve only read one other thriller by Lisa Jewell, and now want to catch up on the rest. This is a complex, multi-layered book that is very cleverly constructed. I thought it culminated in a very satisfactory ending, too.”

Reader review:
“The spy novel has been elevated from pulp fiction to highbrow literature here, without losing any of the thrill. It is certainly a must read.”

Reader review:
“This is a typical ‘very English’ whodunnit, featuring eccentric characters who come alive on the page… It’s clever, it’s sad, it’s moving in places, and it’s wickedly funny throughout.”

Holly’s review:
“I read this in under a week, which for me is super fast because I’m the slowest reader. The reason I read it so fast was because it stressed me out so badly I wanted it to be over and out of my life – I mean that in a really good way! It’s more of a psychological thriller, it’s not for the faint-hearted and it’s really dark in places. If it was made for the telly I don’t think I’d be able to watch it. It’s a bit jumpy. I did enjoy it – it was good, it keeps you guessing and I also must say, it’s quite sexy. If you like thrillers, this is a goodie. It scared me HUGELY.” — via our Instagram

“This really *is* impossible to put down. I read it in three sittings; it would have been one if I hadn’t had to sleep, eat, and have a shower. Excellent dialogue, more twists than a waltzer, and all delivered in a very economic and approachable style. A TV series is surely only a matter of time.”
