Holly’s stylist Danielle explains how to transition your summer LWD (little white dress) into an autumn must-have.
With warm, sunny days looking like they are here to stay, a great white dress will always be the perfect summer staple! But, layer up with a chunky knit and a black boot, and she’s perfect for autumn! I get so much wear out of mine. The classic white dress is the kind of item you can just throw on and instantly look put together. There is so much versatility with this look depending on whether you style with a heel, simple sandal or trainer. From romantic to prairie I’ve sourced a style for every occasion so let’s ditch the LBD (little black dress) for the LWD (little white dress)!
A great starting point when looking for a timeless white dress, is to go for a style you can wear year after year. One that has stuck around and shows no sign of leaving is the square-neck-puff-sleeve and I love this Zara, Linen Blend Midi Dress, £32.99. The perfect shape to fit and flatter all figures, I cannot champion this style enough. Something else to note, and something I have seen a lot of on the High Street (particularly this year) is a linen-mix. Gone are the days of wearing linen that instantly creases with the slightest movement – a linen-mix fabric is the answer!

When looking for a summer dress to keep you cool in hot weather, loose fitting is often key and I love H&M’s, A-Line White Cotton Dress, £11. A shapeless style, but nipped in at the bust and still feminine with frill detail and delicate spaghetti straps. Perfect.

I adore this & Other Stories Ruffled Strappy White Mini Dress, £65. Making a return to store year after year, it’s a great classic addition to your summer wardrobe. I can’t fault the cut, designed as a close fit on the body, with nipped in waist and kick-flare skirt with frilled edge to add to the flirty feminine style.

If you’re looking for more of a formal style white dress, Warehouse currently have perfect one for a summer soiree on sale with their Lace Strappy Square Neck Midi Dress, £90 (similar to the one seen on Holly). It’s a great retro style with a square neck and cinched in waist that can be worn again and again.
A silk slip can also be a super transitional piece and Nobody’s Child have a great 90’s nightie style in this Helena Cream Floral Midi Dress, £49. A perfect summer throw on, but don’t be afraid to layer with a chunky knit and trainer to take you through to autumn.
PS. Holly’s wearing a Charo Ruiz, Irene Tiered Embroiderie Anglaise Maxi Dress.
Happy LWD hunting!
