Spring has officially sprung, so we asked Holly’s stylist, Danielle, for a masterclass on how to wear the colour of the season, butter yellow.

Technically, spring is already here, but you could have fooled me with this weather! It’s just as well yellow is the colour of this new season, to inject a little sunshine to our wardrobes. While no other colour evokes springtime like yellow, this year sees a new hue; butter yellow. I think this creamy hue is much more wearable than the lemon yellow trend of last year.

With its creamy undertones, it’s a great, albeit subtle, colour pop. If, like me, you’re more of a neutral girl, then butter yellow is the spring colour for you. Here’s a rundown of some of my favourite pieces on the High Street and a little advice for how to wear them.

How to wear the yellow on the high street right now

Starting with the basics, I love this H&M, Pale Yellow Linen Shirt, £27.99. I’ve said it before, but a good linen shirt can become one of the most wearable pieces in your wardrobe. It’s brilliant for layering and is truly a piece for all seasons, as it can be layered under knitwear with tailored trousers or worn over a swimsuit on the beach.

For a new spring vibe, pair with a pyjama stripe trouser, layering with a vest and jumper tied around your shoulders for that perfect off-duty look.

Reserved, Nude Lyocell Blend Shirt – £29.99

A full tonal look can be great for this colour. It’s almost a warmer shade of neutral, so super-wearable. I love the detail of the frill of this Reserved, Nude Lyocell Blend Shirt, £29.99. The detail is really cute which can also serve to elevate the shirt to a more formal attire. Pair with a similar tone trouser for a full monochromatic vibe.

I love these high-rise, flared Sézane, Yellow Clayton Trousers, £145. I know Sézane can be on the pricier side but I would say that their trousers are such a good investment piece because they always look and feel amazing.

If you’re looking for a lower price option, these River Island, Yellow Pleated Wide Leg Trousers, £17 are spot on for colour and style.

ASOS Edition, Belted Slouchy Trench Coat in Buttermilk – £60

Given that we live in the UK and the weather rarely does what it’s supposed to from season to season, a trench coat is most definitely an essential at this time of year. This ASOS Edition, Belted Slouchy Trench Coat in Buttermilk, £60 is the perfect hue of yellow. Great for layering (which is key) but also can be a look in itself – don’t be afraid to wear it as a dress! For a full look pair with an ecru jean, tee and classic trainer.

I feel like I bang on month after month about waistcoats but I really do champion them – they work perfectly with chic jeans and a nice top. This River Island, Yellow Knit Waistcoat, £30 is a gorgeous buttery yellow number that combines the texture of a knit whilst giving a nod to tailoring. Pair with a high rise straight or barrel (if you’re feeling a little adventurous) leg jean and ballet pumps.

& Other Stories, Light Yellow High Waist Tweed Mini Skirt – £75

If you’re more of a skirt wearer, then this & Other Stories, Light Yellow High Waist Tweed Mini Skirt, £75 is the cutest A-line mini to brighten your mood on the dullest of days. Pair with a white frill-detail blouse and Mary-Jane heels for a nod to the classic 60’s style.

Enjoy these sunny vibes!
