Different smells can boost how we feel, which is why experts recommend ‘fragrance wardrobes’ to lift our spirits and help us bring back important memories, as Kelly Foster explains.
We’ve all experienced the affect a particular smell can have, whether that’s to transport us back in time to a vivid memory, instantly boost our energy and invigorate us, or to send us off into a relaxed, sleepy state.
Scents can dictate our everyday life without us even thinking about it, so how can we harness them to elevate our lives?
Here are some suggestions…
Scents that help you to feel confident and empowered:
If you’re in need of a boost look for scents that include bergamot, cedar wood or frankincense.
- Bergamot is renowned for its uplifting and refreshing scent, which can boost mood and self-assuredness, which is why we included it in our (borrowed from) The Wild perfume.
- Cedar wood’s grounding and earthy aroma can instill a feeling of stability and self-assuredness.
- Frankincense is a sacred and meditative scent that can help create a sense of inner peace and confidence.
Scents to make you feel sexy and sensual
If you’re getting ready for a date night or an intimate evening in, consider turning to the fragrances of vanilla, jasmine, or rose.
- Vanilla, with its sweet and creamy aroma, is often associated with warmth and comfort. It can evoke a sense of cosiness and intimacy.
- Roses have long been a symbol of love and romance. The delicate, floral scent of roses can evoke feelings of passion and desire.
- Jasmine has a rich, exotic floral scent that is both captivating and alluring. It can evoke feelings of sensuality and intrigue.
Both Vanilla and Rose can be found in our (borrowed from) A Love Story wax melts and Jasmine in our (borrowed from) The Hedgerows wax melts.
Scents to help you unwind and relax
For those moments when you need to de-stress, turn to scents like lavender, rosemary, or ylang-ylang.
- Lavender’s gentle, floral scent can help reduce stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of calm.
- Rosemary’s woody and herby aroma can also have relaxing, mood-boosting effects. It may help ease tension and help with mental clarity.
- Ylang-ylang has a sweet and exotic fragrance that is associated with relaxation and stress reduction, and is found in our (borrowed from) The Past wax melts.
Scents that can give you an energy boost
We all need an extra pep some days, so keep an eye out for peppermint, lemon, or cinnamon scents.
- Peppermint has a fresh and invigorating scent. It can help stimulate the senses, increase alertness, and promote mental clarity
- Lemon has a bright and zesty fragrance that can awaken the mind and provide a feeling of freshness and vitality. Our (borrowed from) The Wild candles and diffusers open with this note so are sure to invigorate you.
- Cinnamon has a warm and spicy aroma that can create a sense of warmth and help to fight fatigue. It can provide a comforting and stimulating effect. You can find this in our (borrowed from) The Past wax melts.
Scents are highly personal, and individual connections to scents can vary due to personal experiences and cultural influences. What might trigger a particular emotion for one person could have a different effect on someone else, so always choose fragrances that resonate with your personal preferences.
Find the right one and it can help you navigate the challenges of each day.
