What Is a Cacao Ceremony? Benefits, Meaning & How to Do One at Home

WYLDE MOON was invited by one of Holly’s oldest friends, Emma Nye, to celebrate Imbolc at her beautiful Truleigh Centre, nestled within the rolling Sussex Downs. It was the perfect setting for honouring the Returning of the Light…held gently by nature, community, and the quiet surrounding landscape.

As we circled together, we honoured the turning of the wheel and the Returning of the Light. Outside, the world still looked grey and quiet. But Imbolc – meaning “in the belly” – reminds us that life is already stirring beneath the surface. Just like seeds resting in the earth, we are in a season of gentle hibernation. Safe. Supported. Preparing.

And yet…the fire is beginning to rekindle.

We felt that spark – the Goddess Brigid’s flame – softly igniting in our own bellies.

Sacred Cacao

We began the day with a Cacao Ceremony. Drinking together helped soften our hearts and gently transition from the busy outer world into sacred space.

The cacao opened us.
The music helped us settle.
We connected with one another in stillness.

(Open Your Heart  was our song of choice…a perfect companion to the ritual.)

Oracle Guidance

After Cacao, we drew our oracle guidance together. There is something powerful about pausing in circle to receive insight. The cards nearly always reflect back what we may already be sensing within.

We used these three beautiful decks:

  • Moonology Manifestation Oracle Cards by Yasmin Boland
  • Work Your Light Oracle by Rebecca Campbell
  • Herbal Astrology Oracle by Adriana Ayales

Each deck brought its own energy – lunar wisdom, soul guidance, and plant medicine insight- creating a layered and intuitive experience.

It’s always lovely to keep a note or journal of your oracle pulls throughout the year. Looking back later can be deeply meaningful, revealing patterns, growth and guidance that may not have been obvious in the moment. Over time, your journal becomes a record of your intuition unfolding.

Purification

We then moved into a release ritual.

We wrote down what we were ready to let go of…from thoughts and fears to emotional attachments and old habits.

Using flash paper (and following all safety instructions carefully), we symbolically burned what no longer served us. This was a simple but powerful moment of letting go: release before renewal.

NB: You do not have to burn the paper. The same symbolism works if you choose to tear it up, shred it or bury it in soil. The act of intention is what creates the shift.

Connecting with Nature

We stepped outside to gather reeds and look for signs of spring. We noticed how still everything felt – even a tiny newt resting quietly nearby.

It was a beautiful reminder that growth is happening…but slowly.

Nature doesn’t rush. Neither should we.

Mindful Creation

In honour of the goddess Brigid, we wove Brigid’s Dollies and crosses, infusing them with our intentions and visions for the year ahead. These will protect our homes until next Imbolc, when they can be safely burned in ritual.

Both the Dollies and the crosses have four points, symbolising the four seasons, four directions, and four elements. Together we called in the corners of the earth.

The cross is also a wheel, which is further reminder that everything is cyclical. The wheel is always turning. Something new is always around the corner. We are part of that rhythm.

Vibrational Healing

Spring music flowed gently across the sound tables as we lay down and allowed ourselves to simply listen. Layered frequencies settled our intentions and anchored our dreams, creating space for the nervous system to soften and reset, with subtle vagus nerve stimulation woven throughout.

Immersive Sound Bath

Emma’s sound bath was deeply healing and beautifully held. The sound journey moved through tingsha chimes, crystal bowls, ocean drum, gongs, rain stick, seed shakers, wind chimes, and chacapas — each instrument bringing its own unique texture, rhythm, and vibration. Together, they created a rich and immersive soundscape that gently harmonised the body, quieted the mind, and supported the full integration of the day’s energy.

Nourishment

And finally, we shared a meal together. Food grounded the energy. Conversation softened the edges. Community brought it all home.

Because ritual is not just about light and intention, it is also about connection and care.

What a glorious day.
