Waiting to Feel Ready is Keeping You Stuck. What If You Already Are?

There’s a version of your life you’ve been quietly designing in the background. A conversation you’ll have when the time is right. A dream you’ll start pursuing when things settle down. A version of yourself you’ll step into when you feel more confident, more prepared, more certain that the ground beneath you is solid enough to hold what you’re planning to build.

The time is never quite right. Things never quite settle. And the confidence you’ve been waiting for hasn’t arrived yet.

It won’t. Not the way you’re expecting it to.

Because readiness; real readiness; doesn’t come before the thing. It comes during it. It arrives in the doing, not in the waiting. And every day spent waiting to feel ready is another day the life you actually want stays on the other side of a door you haven’t opened yet.

Where did this come from?

The waiting is rarely conscious. Nobody decides to put their life on hold. It creeps in gently; disguised as patience, as practicality, as being sensible about timing. It sounds like: when the kids are older. When work calms down. When I’ve lost the weight. When I feel more like myself.

These feel like reasonable conditions. But quietly, over time, they become a way of keeping yourself safe from the vulnerability of actually trying. Because trying means risking. And risking means possibly failing. And somewhere along the way, not starting began to feel safer than starting and falling short.

But here’s the cost of that safety. Every year spent waiting is a year of the thing you want; unlived.

What readiness actually looks like

It doesn’t feel like certainty. It doesn’t feel like confidence fully formed and ready to deploy. It feels like deciding; in the presence of fear, uncertainty and imperfect timing; to do it anyway.

Every person you admire for their courage felt exactly what you’re feeling now. The difference isn’t that they stopped feeling afraid. It’s that they stopped waiting for the fear to leave before they moved.

Readiness is a decision. Not a feeling.

The question worth sitting with

If you knew the outcome would be okay; not perfect, not guaranteed, just okay; what would you do today?

Not next year. Not when the timing improves. Today.

A conversation you’ve been putting off. A creative idea gathering dust. A boundary you’ve been meaning to set. A dream you’ve been carrying so long it’s started to feel more like a weight than a possibility.

What would you do?

That is the thing. That specific answer that arrived before you had time to talk yourself out of it. That’s what’s been waiting.

One small thing

You don’t have to leap. You don’t have to overhaul everything before the end of the week. You just have to do one thing today that belongs to the version of yourself you’ve been waiting to become.

One email. One conversation. One honest admission to yourself about what you actually want. One step in the direction of the thing; however small, however imperfect, however far from ready you feel.

Readiness follows action. It always has.The ground doesn’t need to be perfect for you to take the first step. It just needs to be there.

And it is. 🌙
